I had a G&L shipped to me like this in 2004. No box, just tape around the case with a shipping label slapped on it!

A fellow G&L collector had one shipped this way a couple of months ago. It's 16 years later and it's still happening!!

Amazingly, both guitars arrived unharmed, though mine did get a couple of dings because the vibrato arm escaped from the case pocket during transport.

My T100 was shipped in just the case covered in plastic wrap. When I complained, the seller claimed that shippers tend to be more careful handling it wrapped that way than if it were in a cardboard box. I doubt that it's true. I suspect that shippers treat everything with equally little respect.

I've received guitars wrapped in bubble-wrap and then placed in the box, guitars placed in a case and then a box with no additional padding, and guitars shipped in their original box with no case. I have yet to receive one that's incurred any damage (knock on wood).

Not as lucky with amps!

Here are my last two arrivals. 2K + Martins, one FedEx, one UPS. I don't agree that shippers consistently handle responsibly, as these two really push their employees to make time. You can see it sometimes when they jump from their trucks and trot around with pkgs. I always ship USPS, with their kinda' slo-mo civil servant pace, bless their hearts.

I seen some real crummy packing jobs. Worst one I seen was when a friend received an Ovation bass that was just thrown in a box with a few pieces of styrofoam that did basically nothing. Of course peghead got chipped on both sides and the controls were mashed into the pickguard. Was so bad the FedEx guy that watched him unbox the Bass laughed said it was about the worst packing job he’d seen in a while

Also guys if you’re shipping a guitar make sure it don’t move around in the case. I seen a G-37 get wrecked because of that. I myself almost missed it when repacking it to return until I did my tried and true shake test. If something bumps around freely from shaking it around figure out what’s the cause otherwise you’re risking damage to the guitar. Unfortunately not all cases adequately support major trouble spots on a guitar.

No, from private sellers.

I was gonna say. Leo, George, and Dale, would be rolling in their graves.
So, being a G&L nut myself. What was in the box???
That top one, with the G&L badge under the handle. Looks like my old gigging S-500. That I found hanging on the wall. In Dale Hyatt's office, in 198?.
Bought an Interceptor body Comanche from him too. Sad to say I let both those get away. Only on I have left is my 1987 ASAT III.

I bought my AC15 Twin c. 1994 from a guy in England…he wrapped the amp in thin cardboard, no padding of any sort, and shipped it that way. I had to go down to Metro Airport south of Detroit (I was living in Ann Arbor at the time) to pick it up and pay import duty. After I looked at the package I asked the guy at the pickup desk if I could open it up on the spot "just in case." He agreed…and the amp was amazingly a-okay. Not even a tube knocked loose (the tubes were of course also not protected at all). I left the cardboard behind at the airport.
