Got to see Steve Hackett at The Egg in Albany last Sunday. A three hour show. He started out with some solo works and after a short intermission they played the entire Seconds Out album. Craig Blundell on drums and Jonas Reingold (ex Flower Kings bassist). One of the best shows I've seen. Still a great guitar virtuoso at 72 years!

Here's a nice writeup with some great pics.

Wow sounds like a great show. I vaguely remember Seconds Out as a live album but Peter Gabriel was already gone and it felt like they had to prove they could do the hits without him... which I think they did. Who did the vocals?

Nad Sylvan. He has quite the tone and ability to really put it out. The linked article in my original post tells why Hackett left the group before the final mix of Seconds Out.

More important member of the Genesis I (we ?) liked than many would know I believe. Came across some nice videos on the net quite recently, and got to realise how good he is...I'm a bit ashamed to have forgotten about him for long (while still occasionally practising a bit his tune Horizon though)... He's been out of the light for long. Lucky you to have had the opportunity to see him...Wish a live album of this show would exist...

^ Hackett has actually remained quite busy since his leaving Genesis in the late 70's, and even after his solo contract w/ Charisma ran out in the 80's. The man has had 3-4 times the output Genesis has! It's just gone largely unnoticed in the US, as Hackett era Genesis was never nearly as big in the States as it was in the U.K., mainland Europe (especially Italy!!!), and in S. America. (Italy has a serious soft spot for early Genesis. Amazing ribute bands like The Musical Box that play clubs in the US, when in Italy, regularly pack arenas and stadiums!! If you look up a list of Genesis tribute bands around the world, 2/3 of them are based out of Italy!

Thanks for the videos. I had to watch old Genesis play this and ended up watching that for more than an hour. Peter Gabriel was such an incredible performer.
