Loving my '61 X-50 as I do, the next Franz equipped Guild archtop for me has seemed increasingly likely. I'd looked at a couple old X-175s, none of which really spoke to me, and have been looking for CE-100s also.
Got talking with Zizala about possible sales, realized a couple fine old Guilds might be coming up. So yesterday took the trek, dropped in to visit with this most engaging and interesting person again. Got to play some real beauties. I always had a feeling the Franz equipped CE-100 would be the best for me, but I was wrong. Zizala's '61 X-175 is the one that grabbed me.
It's a real beauty. My second blond Guild. Has been well cared for and well played. A few scuffs on the front, nothing major. Some overspray on the back of the neck where the finish had been worn away. The frets are low, used enough that I will have it refretted. Even with low frets, this guitar has such a presence. It feels right in my hands. Has a real voice even unplugged. Big tone from the Franz p/us. Doesn't hurt that it's so pretty either. What a lovely instrument. Thank you Zizala. You know your Guilds, and you've chosen really fine instruments to own. It is my pleasure to now own this one.
