Hey guys

after the D55 i'm considering buying this one :

http://www.metrosound.com/gear-vintage/ ... name=Guild

A few questions for the specialists here :)

First of all the neck especially the back...

It seems like it's not the original one... the colours don't match together....

Is that normal? do you think it's the original neck?

Also i figure that knob and humbucker aren't the original ones and the plate is missing too

Second point is for the bigsby ans scale....

i saw on han's book that they were 2 different scale for the same model on that period

Which one is the best? this one or the other one?? i mean in term of sensation and playability....

HOpe someone has one of these to lighten my quest :)

What are the two holes or screws or whatever on the back of the headstock near the volute?

Yeah, the pickups, knobs and bridge have definitely been changed at some point. Hard to say if the flamed neck if a redo, aside from the two aforementioned holes/dots, it looks really nice.

actually that's a SFIV and $2k is a bit pricey for that. the SFVI definitely has something funky going on with the neck, especially the two drillholes in the back of the headstock there.

but if it's true that those are Gibson humbuckers from '63-'65 in there, doesn't that make them PAFs? in which case those alone are worth more than what they're asking for the guitar!

First thought on the headstock 'holes', 'screws', 'dowels', or whatever, would be 'fracture' repair...with a refin. But nothing is mentioned....

Up to the mid 60's (don't have "The Book" with me for exact years), the necks joined at the 16th fret. Then they changed them to the 18th. This is an 18. I believe it was to allow you to play up further on the neck.

Maybe the neck holes are from a removed locking nut. 8)

What missing plate are you refering to?

I think the older ones were at the 16th fret, but regardless it was for higher fret access.

I second the first thought....right about where a couple of screws would go plus some play-dough in the holes.

Are not locknuts installed FROM THE FRONT with 4 little screws?

Sure is on one of mine, or was...switched to a standard nut...still have the locknut and still have the 4 little holes FRONT.

Where's 'Glue when we need him?

I dunno, I skipped class the day they taught smilies. FWIW, I use it for satisfied, things are pleasant in a sunny way, things are cool but like cheese, tone, and guitar strings ...
