I have an option to purchase a used, though great condition (at least from the picture) with hardshell case, blond Starfire VI for $1000. I currently own a 2004 Corona Starfire IV Sunburst. I have not had a chance to put my hands on the VI yet, but I love the feel of my IV. I added a bigsby to it. So the main observable differences are the colors and the added master volume on the VI. But neck and pickup tone, are not yet known to me.

I welcome any thoughts on the differences or pluses and minuses or anything you want to share.

Thank you.

Explain later and buy the Staifire VI, immediately. You sound as though this might be a local pick up. For a $1000 you will have offers to recover your money plus some. And I, for one, will, gladly, PM you my address if the above mentioned guitar is, indeed, a Starfire VI and in the condition you described.

The 2020 Starfire is quite different from your 2004. $1000 is a good price, but only you can decide if it will make you happy.

I have a NS SF VI - Try to get additional discount. Mine plays quite well and the Mini's despite the OHM thing sound great to me.

I have a ns star fire v . I can tell you the guild license bigsby isn’t bad . I have a USA bigsby on my telecaster and I don’t see too much of a difference in quality. The USA one is a little smoother than the import but not enough
To feel like you’ll need to replace it. Some like the lb1 but I hated them but don’t fret a standard tv Jones filtertron will just drop in

The NS Starfires are essentially based on "old school" 1960's Guilds. I have not played or heard a maple body NS Starfire 4, 5 or 6. However I do have a '67 mahogany SF5 and to my ears that guitar excells and brings out the very best tone of the smaller Guild antihum pickups. I do have NS guitars with antihum pickups and find the tone very similar to the vintage version. I also perfer maple body guitars.

The bottom line is the smaller antihum pickup from Guild will sound significantly different from any full size humbucker. It can be an "acquired taste" type pickup. And for my money that pickup sounds best in a semihollow guitar.

BTW does the SF6 have gold or chrome hardware? In the past SF6 had gold but they are now also available in chrome. The chrome models will hold up very well over time and the gold will deteriate quickly. If you do get the gold you may want to apply a clear coat to the hardware especially the pickups so they maintain their bling look.

I think the VI's are all still gold but the V's are available in Chrome or (Nickel?)...
