I've played acoustic guitar and other instruments for years, but finally purchased an Archtop. Starfire II serial number ag301130. Sticker says it was made in Rhode Island. From other posts I'm guessing 1999 as the manufacture date. Am I correct?

I'm presently using a Squire Sidekick Reverb 35 amp. Works fine, but any recommendations for an amp? I'm not a professional, but enjoy jamming with others once in a while.

Love the guitar. Don't know why I waited so long to get an archtop. I could practice and play it all day long, mostly blues and pop/country. Planning an early retirement next year so I'll find time to work on learning some jazz techniques. Thanks in advance.

Hello Bob,

Welcome! You were close! The guitar is from 1998.

Have fun playing it!

Sincerely,

Ah so.

Greetings from Newsyland, and welcome to the madness.

Helluva smart plan that; have a great time with your new "girl".

Hi Orso - I, too, have playing my "new" 1999 Starfire II all day. I love the lightness of it, and have yet to have any trouble with feedback, which was my main concern. I play in a little jazz combo, can't wait to use it there, great jazz tone with this guitar.

What's interesting to me is I have a 1961 Guild A-50 - an archtop acoustic - and the Starfire II feels and plays exactly like it. So 38 years later and you can see the similarity between the instruments...very cool!

Have fun!

Thanks to everyone for responding.

I've always known Guild had a good reputation, but never put my hands on one until now. Unbelievable...I just don't want to put it down. I'm sure I'll be looking around for a Guild acoustic or acoustic/electric in the not too distant future. My Sigma D28 just doesn't cut the mustard. But for now, the SF II is great. Too bad I have to go to work tomorrow. Summer School started and I have to be there. I can't call the principal with an excuse because I'm the principal.

I thrilled I found LetsTalkGuild.com.

Not that it matters (and it might be a reflection on my playing skills rather than Guild's design and build practice) but all of my Guild basses (which span about a 25 year period) play exactly the same, at least as far as the left hand is concerned. Indeed that is my excuse for buying Guilds (after the first one, anyway).
