I think many two pickup Starfires came frome the factory wired out of phase, (right?)

Any of you guys put them into phase, if so, what say ye?

Thanks!

I don't know - mine was in phase when I got it, but I'm far from the first owner. I like in phase more, definitely.

A 1967 SFXII I owned years back came out of phase. I like out of phase wiring when you have control over the volume on each pickup. Then you can tweak the tone to be modestly out of phase in tone.

thanks for the replies. I think its worth a try to swap it some time.

I agree, there is that 'in-between zone' with interesting tonal possibilities, on the nightbird*, I use those areas quite a bit. Comparing to the nightbird with it's switchable phase, though, is what makes me want to hear both pickups full volume in phase.

* on the nightbird I replaced the three way pickup selector switch with a pan knob. (which I've found accomplishes the same thing as separate volumes in a more convenient way) allowing the dicsovery of those in between phase zones.

The Astro Jet that I have does have the pups wired out of phase and has a blend control that does just that.

whoah, got a pic of that one?

I had this for a while, part of the revolving door of gas.

I don't think I've seen an astro jet, until I just now googled it. Very cool.

My SFIII, the AJ, which I picked up for $239 in 1984 and my '66 Vibrolux which I bought as a chassis and reverb tank. The cab is from Vintage Restoration.
The AJ is one of the last ones made. It has four knobs, a unique handle on the Burns Vibrola and a treble booster that I have never seen on any other Astro Jet. It's starting to get binding rot around the fretboard, but a pretty neat guitar.
