I took a walk downtown at lunchtime and wound up by First Avenue, the celebrated Minneapolis club where most of the great bands and performers have played on their way up (or down). The exterior of the club is painted black and has white stars with the names of performers who have played there on them. I hunted around to see if I could find Pearl Jam's star -- they played First Ave. on March 25, 1992, their first show after their MTV Unplugged performance -- and finally discovered it at pavement level along the wall to the right of that pickup truck.

It's a great place to see a show, and I just wish I had seen more, including that '92 Pearl Jam show. Here's a story our paper did about the most recent repainting of the exterior walls and the stars in 2010.
