Well, "Spring" was here for a visit yesterday....

Looking across Bellingham Bay toward Lummi Island

....and it's raining this morning, but we have high hopes for a return of spring-like weather any day now.

Tornado issues down in the Carolinas, but so far pretty nice as it's just getting going in New England.

Come and gone here in So Fluoridea ... daytime highs in the mid-upper 80s ... we had a great run of weather from late February until now ... dry, breezy, day-time highs in the mid-70s ... very Mediterranean 8)

A beautiful, but bone dry spring in South Central Tejas Hills. Daytime highs in the low 80s and nightime temps in the low 50s.

We had plentiful rain last year resulting in one of the best bluebonnet springs on record:

We're back in drought conditions this year, hardly a bluebonnet in sight. AC weather fast approaching dang it... This week's highs forcasted in the low 90s and nightime lows around 70. Sure wish we could catch some rain...

You know Scratch, I could live in Texas Hill Country no problem if it weren't for June, July, August, and September.

I'm a very poor hot weather beast. I couldn't stand the summer here last year...

Spring is fading fast on the Gulf Coast..azaleas have already bloomed. Nice today, cool morning temps, low humidity, but summer is coming. Which is fine, because they need to open the pool!!

It's up to 93 here in Las Vegas today. The A/C comes on in the afternoon to cool the house down enough to make it tolerable. Here we go.... summer's on it's way..... Tom in Vegas

Sandy,
When folks ask why I chose to settle down in Texas I reply: "Because of October through April". May thru September we just hunker down under a shade tree and dip our feet in the Guadalupe. 8)

Killed a little ground rattler in the flower bed yesterday afternoon Kenster, right next to the front porch. I had mashed him with the shovel, but we were in soft dirt. Mrs. West was wanting to grab him by the tail with her thick leather gloves, thinking he was dead, but I stopped her, then I took the shovel away and he began to coil and strike again. He's hawk food now.

But here, we always know when spring is upon us when we get these enormous thunderstorms. Had one last Thursday night in fact, and one about 3 days before that. This time of the year, they come about twice a week normally.

Sandy,

I'm a transplant from the Midwest, and my first summer in Texas was a killer..thought I was going to die - literally. Then, all of a sudden, one's blood thins out and it isn't nearly that horrible. There's lower humidity in the Hill Country due to higher elevation...and, when we sit out at night, there aren't (m)any mosquitoes. If the drought continues, we won't have a dang one this summer. Another bonus! ;)

Y'all come on down, ye hear?!

Phew, thank goodness Mrs. West didn't pick it up. YIKES! Good call on your part!

:) Been around snakes since I was a kid, but they still scare the ____ out of me. I'm fine as long as I can see them, it's the ones right next to your hand or foot when you see them that bother me.

Mrs. Two's the same way, except she's completely horrified of even harmless ones like Garter snakes, and even when they're on TV.

She says it stemmed from the eight years she lived outside Hugetown growing up. I'll have to admit I don't like snakes that much myself, especially rattlers.

I found this rattler in the road one day. Road kill. My son went and got it to show off. Here's a pic of my grandson next to it. Gives me a little bit of a chill. That's as close as he would get, and not without the big stick.

Wouldn't think the Gulf Coast would be rattler country, but there are some big ones around here.
