Yeah, what Jim K said...

I went to the website but I couldn't find an answer to my questions:

1. Are they phosphor bronze or ???

2. Is the coating similar to other coatings like Elixer or are they just a color coating?

I used to play Nashville Straights. They came in a long straight box. Their claim to fame was that they were never curled up. I think it was a marketing ploy, they must've come off a coil of wire at some time. Great strings though :D

I loved Nashville Straights! Had forgotten all about them. My favorite part was that you could buy an entire tube of one particular string, like a G string. We even built a hanger in the band van for the tubes.

They look expensive, are they?
About $13 a pack plus shipping, so close to Elixirs. But you know me, anything for the "look."
Actually, I was just hoping they'd distract folks from my playing!

In my humble opinion...

I usually use Elixirs and bought 2 sets of "Aurora" brand colored strings for fun.
The black coating (many colors are offered) is on all 6 strings and is supposed to be a protective coating; I can't feel it when I play.
The sound is bright to the point of being jangly on my JF-65, especially in the mid-range. They might sound more even on a rosewood-backed instrument.
I can't imagine trying to change black strings on a dark stage, but maybe the brighter colors would be easier.

Not terrible, but I would buy one of several other brands before I purchased another set.
My recommendation would be to spend your hard-earned cash on your present favorites before exploring with these.

I'm really surprised nobody on this board uses D'addario EXP strings. I dont know how you can put up wit h that greasy feeling after the Elixers start shedding. The EXPs dont do that. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Scrath, I tried switching over to the John Peasrse strings. They dont do anything for me. am not sure why they are applauded all the time. My EXP's sound better on my F47M. I use the 80/20's which if you havnt noticed are not stocked at very many places.

 Hey Russ, I just tried an experiment and put a set of PB on the JF65 just to try them, I love JP 80/20's on my rosewood guitars, but don't care for the sound with maple. Anyway, I put, or tried to put DiAddario's on the 65 and DiAddarios have the little color coded string ball. I had to go into the kitchen 5 times and get Mrs. West to identify the color...... I figured the 6th out all on my own. It's tough being half blind, then add colorblindness to that and well..........Kenny, can I borrow your glasses?

I've been giving Ernie Ball stings a go lately. I put a set of Super Slinky nickel wounds on my T5 a while back & liked the feel of them so much I put a set of Super Slinky Acoustics on my G 37. Probably the G 37 loses a touch of it's "big" sound with the lighter strings, some maybe, not much, but it's bright & clear & plenty loud. The feel & ease of play is verra verra nice, I like them a lot. G strings are continually breaking because of my clumsy practice & I have been replacing them with .20 guage PB singles, just ordered another dozen today.

That's what I use. I really like the PB sound on my jumbos. Actually I have a mix of uncoated and EXPs. I find that the uncoated PBs are just fine for me and last a good long time (surprisingly). Plus they're cheaper. :) I haven't noticed much of a difference with the EXPs.

The Elixirs shedding is definitely a factor on the Polyweb version of their strings. I really like those for the slippery feel and squeak elimination. I get a lot of squeak out of most of the other string types that I've tried, including the Elixir Nanoweb. I haven't noticed much/any shedding on the Nanowebs though, bedell. It's probably because I don't play them enough. :(

On Elixirs...
I use Nano's because, while I'm not in Grot's class, I'm lucky enough to own 14 guitars. I can only play about 2 hours a day. If I use traditional uncoated phosphor-bronze, they corrode by time I get back to play 'em.

I wash my hands and wipe down the strings.
If you guys have a better solution to keeping strings fresh while the guitar is hanging on the wall, let me know, because then I could get away from these 15 dollar string sets!

Could be worse. You could be stringing basses... $15/set sounds like a bargain to me. 8)
