I had to post a reply to the second one. I'll share it here. If you or a loved one is a teacher and would like to provide evidence that contradicts my opinion, feel free. This is based on my personal experience over the past 11 years with our own local school district, and it's teachers and administrators. So, unless your rebuttal is pertaining to that specific group, you're not likely to alter my view. I have expressed this opinion to local friends and have found no one yet who disagrees. Not even my high school classmate and friend, who has been teaching in this district for 34 years.
I like what he says, but I have two kids in high school. I have never met a teacher like this. The only reason a teacher has ever called us at home was to ask for money for something. I don't believe that "those who can't, teach". I believe those who teach are looking for a prodigy they can make into a protogé. They want a star to validate what they teach. Those who really need help, who don't learn easily, are left in the dust. I hate admitting that the teachers I loved were probably the same.
