It looks like a luthier's business card - his name, profession, and adress. Does that answer your question?

Hi Larry; subject to what bluesypicky has to say ...

Nicolas Lupot is somebody's name
Luthier is luthier in french and english but I'd think maker of stringed instruments is a better way to think of it since geetars weren't that big a thing back in the olden days
A roughly translates as 'at' ... modern french uses a little diacritical accent mark over the 'a' ... an 'accent grave' ... means rough 'at' or 'towards'
RUE DE GRAMMOI Street of Grammoi where Grammoi is a proper noun ... like a name ... it doesn't translate literally as in Street of The Fishemen or Rue des Pêcheurs ... think of it as Grammoi Street.
A PARIS in or at Paris
I Who knows ... could be an early form of zip code ... city divided into postal areas ID'd with Roman numerals ... don't know for sure.
AN 1803 the word 'AN' is literally 'year' or 'in the year 1803'

So ... I'd go with
name: Nicolas Lupot, maker of stringed instuments
street address: Grammoi Street
city: Paris (postal zone I ?)
year: 1803

My best guess ... John

I am sure its probably a counterfit but, I will take it a violin maker I know a few towns over just to see what he thinks. I bought it mainly to have another violin besides the one I am trying to learn to play and the one I am building ! Besides I figured a counterfit of a violin of that quality would still have to be a pretty fine fiddle :D

It reminds me of the time my dad bought a Stradivarius. The label was printed in English, but he wouldn't entertain the notion that it might have been a fake.

Reminds me of some of the recent eBay "Guilds" that were exposed for what they really were....NOT Guilds, just Guild wannabes!

Not even when it said, 'Genuine Stradivarius, made in Taiwan, 1964' :?:

They're right next door to us - centuries of war and conflict

Ah... dirty distant memories....
But now, after we both realized trying and taking over the world wasn't necessarily worth it, we came to love each other didn't we? Just like our ex-colonies did....
