Just wanted to post a pic from Friday night's gig of the NAMM Sparkle Bluesbird. Great guitar (although the side markers are nearly invisible in low light!).

I'm not known for hipness, but I do believe that qualifies as Bling. And I had not noticed the checkerboard tolex, nice touch.

Closest I get is a subtle sparkle in the strat:

Couldn't help but notice the red knob Twin. How does the "Evil Twin" sound when it's dialed down to 25 watts?

Way too loud. I'm not even sure the switch worked. I usually pulled two of the power tubes out, then it was almost manageable. I liked that amp, but sold it a couple months ago, mostly because it weighs 88 pounds, and also because I got an offer, and I made $250 on it after using it for a year.

Couldn't help but notice the Maverick, I think one popped up on the 'bay recently. How do you like it?

and I always watch those sparkly DeArmonds when they're available, one day the timing will be right.

Maybe it would be criminal, but just imagine a guildsby on that sparkly bluesbird.

I like the Mav just fine! It's not too loud (Deluxe Reverb territory) and being made of plywood, it's not as heavy as sawdust and glue. It is topheavy, although it has feet on the side, so you can place it in a more conventional position.

This is it: Maverick currently on eBay. Seller sez: "We plugged a guitar in and it sounds ok but none of the amp features were tested" There's no footswitch showing in the auction pics. In the olden days, Guild hard-wired the foot-switch; do not know if this model jacks in but if you don't have a FS you can't test (or use) the 'features' whether they work or not.

Seller got around saying it doesn't have a FS by saying - honestly - that he didn't test features. If the FS jacks in, any two-button Fender-style FS would work. Seller also says it's 135 watts ... if it's 135 then default is Jerry Garcia ... it consumes 135 watts when it's on .. puts out 25 watts or so.

Effects work without a footswitch. I would guess that neither works, for whatever reason.
edit: a Fender fs would be perfect.

Ok ... a distinction of no importance but just turning them down isn't the same as turning them off ... turning them down makes it so you can't hear them ... turning them off makes it so you can't hear them ...

I got to check out Serial's Holoflake 'Bird last week.

KILLER guitar!

I'm a sucker for metalflake and holoflake finishes, but that one plays like a dream. Very nice...

Serial Steve,
Is that a Steve Marker guitar? I'm drawing on a faint memory here, but I seem to remember Guild/Fender did a special run of 35, about 10 yrs ago, modeled after a custom guitar made for Steve Marker (of Garbage). The only difference being his only has 1 pickup and 1 volume knob, no tone knob.

Same finish, but Serial's is one of the ones from the '02 Corona run of 35. The Steve Marker guitar(s) were also done in a separate run and in a couple different sparkle/holo finishes. I took this one from a Garbage/No Doubt show back in '03:
