Welcome to LTG! That Truss Rod Cover with "RS" also looks very cool, leave it as it is! It is part of the history of that guitar!

I just took a look at this thread.....
That is a great guitar.....love the earliest Starfires.

I have a '61 mahogany Starfire II that came to me minus the original pickups, why I don't know.
But those would have been the regular "Dynasonic" style.
Fortunately while searching for the right ones, I came across a great set of beveled DeArmonds probably from a parted out '60 Stafire. Exactly like on the OP's guitar.
I love those pickups.

I did once have a '60 Starfire II with the bevels...a lighter guitar with a thinner top......had a different character all around than my '61.

With this one I'd go over it and clean it up but also wouldn't change a thing.....and I'd keep your dad's truss rod cover too.
I like the story.

They do sound great - I think I just get a little too loud on stage for them

Yes, I guess I wouldn't have known that......I don't play at the sort of stage volumes that many of you might do.
