Looked like the chase planes were F18s. Loud buggers they are.

It is quite obvious that the Noise Suppression equipment forced on the Commercial Airliners, is not required on Military planes. 18,000 lbs of thrust brings with it a significant amount of noise.

Boeing 737-200 has 16,000 lbs. of thrust and it carries 130 people.

Lots of things are done, from things in the construction of the Engine Nacelle to absorb noise and things to prevent the transmission of noise through the wall of the Nacelle, differences in the shape of the trubine blades inside the engine, to differences in the shape of the air inlet and exhaust.

Most of the changes are extremely simple, though many of them required long study and test programs to prove that the theorys were practical.

Also changes in the pitch or angle of the fins and inlet nozzles.

I've sort of specialized in rather large turbochargers Mr. P. Not as large as jet engines, although I've seen several cutaway jet engines, but ours do have 18" wheels. We have them on our large reciprocating natural gas compressors.

My shuttle experience came at the '84 worlds fair in New Orleans. I was delighted to have several pics taken of me standing under the wing of the Enterprise. Being an original Star Trek fan made that a bigger experience for me. 8)

Never forget my test drive of a '78 280Z with a BAE turbo running at 24 lbs of boost with no wastgate!! Intended to change gears at about 5000 rpm. When I hit 4000 rpm it wrapped up to the 6500 rpm redline before I could pull my foot off the gas pedal. I stopped and got out and said, "You drive, this sucker is dangerous"!!

 Yeah, my wife wants a 350 Z, so I had to test drive one of those and an Infiniti G35. Personally, I like the G35, but she is about decided she wants a Z. My gosh they both run! I'm a truck kinda guy myself.

So, Westy, you're paying the lady in your life big time for all that GAS you've had, eh?

Me and Jeff, we just had to buy diamonds. You, on the other hand, must buy a Z or an Infiniti

I think we've discovered a new theorum: "The volume of GAS satisfied is fractionally proportional to the paybacks required by the spousal unit"

   Intuitively obvious to even the most causual observer!

Na, she makes her own money and works very hard for it. She really has the best money sense of any woman I've ever met. (Did that sound chauvinist)? A heck of a lot better than I do!

I just had to convince her I had money to get her to marry me, she is such a good person that when she discovered I was so broke I couldn't pay attention, she wouldn't leave me! 8)
