Can anybody please advise which is a nicer guitar? 1992 has the large volume controls on the top and the 1995 has the sliding controls on the top.

There was no Songbird "AE04" model, that is a typo on the label, the person who wrote the label copied the first 4 letters/numbers of the AE04 serial number by accident in the model name.
It's a "S4CE NT HR" (C for cutaway, E for electric, NT for natural top and HR for hand rubbed satin finish).

There were several versions of the S4CE.
Hans had told us before here : "The S4CE and the Songbird were exactly the same size with the same pickup system. The S4CE however, was the satin finished version of the Songbird. Both models went to the slightly thicker, about 2-1/2" deep, body around 1995.".

Workedinwesterly had told us : "The Songbird used the same profile as the Bluesbird, it even shared the same case. The earliest versions were thinner with a 2 knob system preamp on the side...part of the brace had to be cut away to install it. It also had a chunk of lead fastened to the 'tailblock' area to help it balance." and "The body became deeper once the Fishman slider preamp was used."

I have a '92, and I'll say that I'm not crazy about the knobs--I seem to move them inadvertently while I'm playing. I don't have this problem with my '90 D25, which also has the knobs, but positioned differently (and on a much deeper body).

ive posted these before, a couple videos of Frankie Hannon and his 1990 (or earlier) songbird. Pairs nice with the F-412!
