If I understand the story correctly, the End Pin Jack was installed after the crack was repaired.

Instaed of removing the End Pin, I make a stack of packing with a hole in it to fit over the end pin.

That's how I do it as well. I'll make a hole in some stiff styrofoam covered in paper, and I'll also reinforce with cardboard to protect if the box gets dropped on that end.

Glad you had an amenable end to the Reverb situation. You couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
