It was my understanding that Funston's efforts to halt the fire by dynamiting firebreaks (all the water mains were broken) did result in saving a good part of the city. Certainly he was thought well enough of to have a fort (Fort Funston, at the S end of Ocean Beach in SF) and street named after him.poser said:Curious. Just last night I was reading about the 1906 earthquake and fire. According to the account I read the firefighters tried dynamiting existing buildings in order to halt the progress of the fire. Instead most of the time it only ignited new fires.
That was my question, Ravon. What the hell is that??Ravon said:What is the contraption floating in the sky in the upper left corner? Jules Verne? Roger Dean?

Does anyone know whether a "before" photo exists? For those of us not familiar with SF, it would help to be able to compare.
