My Guild jones won't go away. Keep thinking about that beautiful orange SF III Darryl just grabbed from the CT store. Got me thinking. Has anyone here spent time with both versions, the P-90 and humbucker equipped? Can you compare, contrast. Which one has more tonal impact, versatility? Do the pickups affect the propensity to feedback at higher volumes?

Thanks

If I have a choice...DeArmonds! That's what I have, and love, anyway..

I think with the tones and music you seem to be into, you'd be much happier with single coil pickups...

Walter:

You could well be right on that single coil thing. That thought crossed my mind as well. And you were right on the Dearmond thing. I had one like that, in red. (Yours is a Special, yes?) Somehow it just didn't work for me. It coulda been the old 335 here at the shack, which made comparison and contrast inevitable. Anyway, I traded that Special for a Peerless Wizard. A year and a half later, rewound P-90s in hand (3 of them), that guitar is ready for the guitar tech.

But the Guild jones won't quit. SF III, S-100, anything Franz ...

Nope, it's a 1961 Guild Starfire III with original DeArmond pickups, and I think you would love it!
