Hello all.

Specs on the SD-1 seem to be a bit difficult to come by. I did see that they are supposed to be identical to the Duncan 59 but jammed in a slightly smaller HB-1 base and cover.

Anyone have information on the gauge of wire, type of magnet, resistance and inductance on these?

Thanks!

I wonder if you contacted Seymour Duncan if they could help?
They've always been pretty helpful but then I have never asked them something so detailed before. The don't offer up the information on the site.

Just thought someone on this site may already have it. I will shoot SD an email today and let you guys know what they come back with.

From what I have read, the Seymour Duncan made SD-1 pickups are very nice sounding in these guitars whereas the Fender made SD-1 pickups are nothing special sounding. The Duncan ones will have stickers on the bottom that read NL for the neck and BL for the bridge from what I have read.

Evan Skopp, SD's VP Business Development & Artist Relations had written the following here in July 2012:
"When FMIC purchased Guild, we made their humbucker pickups for the first year or so while they were tooling up. These were the pickups that had covers that look like this: http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/userpix0 ... cker_1.jpg
What we wound under the covers to capture as much of the original sound as possible, was very close to our SH-1 '59 Model. Ironically, when FMIC eventually took over production of this pickup, they called it the "SD-1" and everyone thought we were still making them -- but we weren't."
How much this info is correct, and how much Evan remembered correctly, I don't know.

FWIW, measurements from my SD-1s - maybe you can use them to match it to teh specs of a standard SD pickup:

Bridge : 8.15 K Ohm DC resistance, 4.87 Henries Inductance

Neck : 7.31 K Ohm DC resistance, 4.04 Henries Inductance

Note the neck has very similar measurements to a HB-1 (usually 6.9 to 7.1 K DC resistance & about 4.0 Henries) but I have no idea about actual magnet type, wire type or number of turns of wire for either of the pickups.

Great! Thanks!

I have a hunch that it is AWG 43 wire and AlNiCo 2 magnet.

I'll let you guys know when I hear back from Seymour Duncan.
