well, maybe an elderly gets the pass for not checking junk mail messages. but when it comes to facebook marketplace/messenger or texting, and it is very clear that the seller has read messages, can only wonder what exactly is the technique they are using by simply never replying? the "take no action alterantive?" i know musicians can sometime be an oddball, but what gives, man??? the items seemingly are not sold, available, and sellers reading messages for local cash deals. 🤷‍♂️

I have zero tolerance for that. I give the seller 2 tries to answer my questions. If he doesn't I just write him off for good, will never try to do business with him again and I don't care what guitar we're talking about. That's just not acceptable.

I run into this occasionally and it's very frustrating. It happens mostly on CL, but that doesn't surprise me, as CL is full of oddballs and idiots, as is Reverb. On CL, I think it's mostly that they sell the instrument, then forget to take it down. Sometimes, they just don't reply for whatever their twisted reason. I also give them two opportunities to reply, and if they don't, it's see you later, a-hole.

Apparently they're not serious about selling, or too lazy to de-list their item.

Not even sellers, even buyers do it…
equally annoying but a buyer could at least be kicking tires, found something else, dreaming a little dream...a seller, it's like, just reply...yes, no, maybe...stop messaging me...just show me a pulse...

Annoying and I personally don't want to "be that guy".

But there are enough ways to explain it besides assuming the seller is a jerk that I have to temper my annoyance.

I wonder how much of my tolerance comes from living through the emergence of email as a communication medium? There was no technical guarantee of delivery and people could easily opt out of sending receipts. Hiding behind email to explain foot dragging or hide resistance was common in my corporate environments. That colored my expectations for all kinds of computer (device) mediated communications and I can still get pleasantly surprised when someone actually does answer.

I sometimes do not reply to stupid low-ball offers for things that I list on CL. These tend to be of the 50-cents-on-the-dollar today-only and only if you deliver to a deserted parking lot after dark variety, and they are often abusive and insulting. I price things fairly and am honest in my assessments of what is for sale. I usually include a disclaimer that lowball offers will be ignored.

I usually reply to polite low-ball offers, however.

No response is a red flag for me. But if it doesn't bother you well...it should.

If something is posted, if I ask a question or make an offer and receive no answer than it's not a red flag for me. I'm just going to walk away. I'd reserve "red flag" for a situation where there was potential danger or loss and I don't see that emerging until there is a response :)
