Dating a Guild D4-NT

Hi all, my first post to this forum.

I have a Guild D4-NT and I'm trying to get some info on date of manufacture. I have looked the serial number up in the Guild serial number chart, but my serial number is not listed for Guild D4-NT's: http://support.guildguitars.com/2012/dating/Dating_Your_Guild.pdf I have also looked in several other online resources and am coming up empty. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Serial number is AD040664

Welcome. Sorry for all the moved and missing posts. New member posts sit in a moderation queue until they are moderated and then I somewhat arbitrarily decided to merge and move so your question would be most likely to get an answer.

I'll guess 1994 but that is simply intuition based on the kinds of errors and omissions we've seen in the online listings. I can't check Han's book at the moment which would be definitive.

Welcome! Stick around - lot's of Guildish knowledge around here.

I think Frono has it right - your serial number seems to fall between the published ranges for '93 and '94.

My wife has a D-4, as did a formerly-favorite nephew who foolishly sold it to buy a Martin Backpacker. Something about wanting a smaller guitar to travel with. Harrumph.

Very nice sounding guitars.

Thanks fronobulax and gjmalcyon - appreciate the info. That fits within the time frame - I picked it up new from Make-n-Music in Frederick, MD some time in the early 90's. I cycled through a several guitars back then, and wasn't sure exactly what year I picked it up.

The other guitars came and went, and the D-4 has been my only guitar for over ten years now. It's not much of a head turner (visually speaking), but it sounds awesome. I love the depth of sound and the long sustain that the arch back gives - it's got a voice like no other.

Love the forum so far - tons of great info here.

Welcom aboard, awerking!

Nice axe you have there! In addition to what the other guys were mentioning, I think during that era they were stamping the date of rim manufacture on the neck block. If you can slide a mirror into the body of the guitar, you might see it.

Welcome to LTG, awerking!! Like chazmo says above, the date should be stamped on the beveled edge of the neck block. Shine a light in there and see what you see. That isn't the final date of completion, but it will get you close. Lot's of D4 love here on the forum!! :encouragement:

Thanks chasmo and davismanLV - great info. Fronobulax, you were dead on with your date estimate. Date stamped on the neck block is March 30, 1994.

This is a great forum - tons of awesome information on here. And it's cool to find a group of people who appreciate their Guild guitars the way I appreciate mine. It is a bit dangerous though - I'm suddenly surfing Craigslist and eBay looking for vintage Guilds...

Heh-heh. Lots (and I mean lots) of enablers around here. I started with my DV-6 as my only Guild. Next thing I knew ....

I have called the D-4 the gateway drug to ViGGAS (vintage Guild guitar acquisition syndrome - pronounced "Vigagass").

Vampires study this site trying to figure out how we do it, without even any physical contact..
