I found a guy on a local board that has a 1973 S-100. When he bought the guitar it had other pups installed, but also included the original pups sans covers. I just bought them for a $100. :D
Seeing the prices on ebay I think I did well.

I am going to completely redo the electronics on my S-73. I am considering using the S-100 wiring scheme complete with the micro switch. Does anyone have a link to a schematic and values for the pots and possibly the manufacturers of said parts (specifically the pots)? :?:

Would that be the beautiful green DeArmond you purchased from a fellow LTG'er? ;)

I was wondering how it was working out. Enjoying it?

Pots should just be 500k. There's a schematic on Guild's website. I don't recall if they address cap values, but now that I looked it up I see that it's all there.

I think the 70s pots were Centralab or CRL. CTS should be suitable as I don't think either of those exist anywhere but NOS. As far as caps the late 60s/early-early 70s used Holland caps. After that, I've only seen dark green polys.

Nice! No overs though? I love the covers. :)

Yeah, that was a bummer. I still keep my eye out for the covered ones. I love those pickups so I'm always looking. Ebay prices are crazy tho.

I have never heard these pups without covers before.

Yes it is! I love the guitar. I plan on rewiring it and then a refret. I prefer a little different fret wire. I get lots of oohs and ahhs from people when I pull it out at our shows (cause it's pretty). Of course everyone thinks it's an SG till I set em straight with this answer....

"Guild guitars are crappy. They are not worth more that $50. You should pay me to take them off of your hands."

I keep hoping that will drive the prices down. BTW I buffed out that mark on the head stock. I don't know what it was, but it is gone.

Pics will happen when I'm done.

Cool thread!! I just snagged a natural S-73 off of Ebay, so I'm now thinking of swapping pickups with my 1973 S-100!!

I'll be curious how your mod works out, any issues with the S-73? I never saw many in stores in Chicago, just S-65 and S-67 models.

Damn I wish they'd restart Guild! If Hofner and Hagstrom can make a go of it, why not (because FMIC is sitting on the intellectual property I am sure). Excuse me while I bust up a Strat....

I was watching that one. I love mine. My only problem is that the thing is so durn shiney!! I'm used to a bit of wear and tear on a guitar. I'm still gonna get a real S-100 one day.

$375 including shipping and gig bag, in "mint" condition. I'm slowly building up my "S-100" collection, now I need a reissue! And a Madeira.

I'm really sorry I missed the big DeArmond selloff back then, I guess Musician's Fiend and stores were really dumping the wood. Now I don't see that many S-73s. Sure does look shiny in the photos, like you, I'm more used to a satin finish (my own S-100 is refinished to gunstock quality).

I'm looking forward to comparing the S-73 to the S-100, so far it seems that DeArmond did a good job with their copy.

Stop me before I buy again! ha ha ha!

I have a '71 S90 that someone wrecked the electronics on. Original pups but the wiring is just wierd looking. The Guild site has wiring for the S100 but not the S90. Should be a pretty simple schematic I would think. Anyone know a good source for the original pots and thoughts on what different caps do to tone?

I haven't created a legitimate wiring diagram for the S-90, but I took some snaps of the insides of mine. It hasn't been touched as far as I can tell. As to the pots, I was under the impression that they were Centralab. '71 could still have seen the use of Holland caps. Let me know if you need anything else visual for the circuit or other parts. Also of note, the value of a cap will determine how the tone control impacts your the frequencies translated by the pickups. I'm probably wrong, but I think a higher value cap will yield less and less treble.

I found out that the HB1's do notfit in the S-73 cavities. Should I bend the tabs on the pups or rout the cavity a bit?

I'd go with Option C...give them to me!

Definitely rout if you're going to use them. I'd say that an S-73 being mildly compromised as opposed to something much less replaceable would be the best rout(e).

Can anyone recommend a suitable shielded wire to run from the pickups to the pots and switches. I don't have enough on the guild pups and I hate making a splice.

btw I did route the cavity a little, but it is going to fit great!
