Hello there! I am not an acoustic player at all, but I think of buying a good entry-level 6 strings,second-hand,a no-brainer, not too crappy sounding...Thought of Sigma,Seagull,etc... of course,Guilds , but which one? 240?130?50 ? What do the F, G , M before the number mean?

They're a less well-kept secret these days, but the D4 dreadnought from Westerly can be really good. My experience with the MIC GAD line has been good. As always, play before you buy.

I will echo the D4 as an inexpensive but great sounding USA made Guild.

D-4 definitely checks most of those boxes however if u are "not an acoustic player at all" i should add that playing a Guild F-20 Troubadour or M-20 Economy, or the equivelant of those models (newer/current production has changed the name), feels just like playing an electric. particularly standing up with a strap (plugged or unplugged). use 11 gauge strings on them

Some of the current imported Guild acoustics are amazing value and worth looking at. I have played and really been impressed with the D-240E, the DS-240, and the OM-120. These are often available used on the Guitar Center web site for very reasonable prices.
If you would prefer to start with a US made Guild I love my D-35 and they are available for $800-$1200 on Craig's List, Reverb and the Guitar Center web site. The only catch with a D-35 is they are older guitars (built from 1969-1986) and you should definitely check the guitar carefully before you purchase. The biggest potential issue is a guitar that needs a neck reset - you want to avoid that or get a guitar that has already had the neck reset done - make sure the guitar has a nice low action at the 12th fret and some saddle for future adjustments. Links to some options below.

I am not much of an acoustic player either, but I am very happy with my Guild D-6. Sometimes you find good deals on them.

I've seen D 25s on Craigslist in the $700-900 range. Worthy of consideration. Seems like older Guilds have gone up with everything else. But think about it, what is a better entertainment value? Once bought, a pack of strings per month is all you'll need for hours of enjoyment. I know, preaching to the choir.

Seagulls are plain, but very good. I have a lefthanded Seagull that isa really good bang for the buck, but I don't need it, being a northpaw. I should just put it on FB marketplace and get rid of it.

Hello

I have an OM240CE - and I'm very happy with it - not to compare to my higher price guitars - but definitively worth every penny of it.

Same as this one - except mine has the cutaway.

And I still play my F50R and the OM240CE about same amount of time.

One of my nephews bought a wonderful example of a D4 (on advice from me (aka "Uncle Grumpy")), and kept it and loved it for several years. Reflecting on his life as an vagabonding college student, he took complete leave of his senses, sold the D4 and bought a Martin Backpacker.

I immediately disavowed any knowledge of his existence or relationship to me ("You're dead to me, punk.").

He finally came to grips with the limitations of the Martin and his girlfriend decided to treat him to a birthday present of a new guitar.

He evaluated a bunch of the current Guild import line, and kept coming back to the D-240E.

And that's what he ended up with.

He's still on my list de merde for selling the D4.
