Fortuitously, the guitar I had up on reverb just sold! One in, one out! I accepted an offer for less than I was asking, but now that I've checked, it was more than I bought it for, so it's all good!

FedEx came through, like they are known to do.

Your guitar karma has to be in tip top shape ( -;) and everything goes fine.

Now I've just got to let it acclimatize for a while. It's about 36 F. outside, so not too bad. The outside of the box is feeling warmer already. I'll not be waiting 24 hours! But I'll wait a few hours before pulling out the case and see how that feels. I'll probably wait a couple more hours after that.

Before retiring, I'd have everything delivered to my office, and then it could sit there the rest of the day without my being tempted to open it since I was busy.

But at home, an hour's worth of patience is about all I can muster up.

I say, rip it open!

I wonder if FedEx/UPS/USPS delivery people talk among themselves about guitar freaks like us who manifest themselves as a special "breed" of users of their services? Jim, my USPS postman, has been on the receiving end a few times of my histrionics. A couple of times I wasn't home when he tried to deliver a guitar; he then left a pink slip. I knew his route in the neighborhood and tracked him down!

OH MAN!!! And it's BLUE!!! I'm so effing envious!!! Please wait long enough to open though. Just open the end of the box and then wait a while to even take the case out. Then once it's out, feel the hardware on the case. If it's still cold, just WAIT!!! You've got it, don't jump the gun or you'll be so disappointed!!! I know it's difficult. Stay STRONG, amigo!! :encouragement:

Haha! I did that once with a UPS truck!

Oh man, I'm weak!

Well, I waited much longer than an hour! I waited 3 hours before pulling it out of the box. The case was fully wrapped up in a packing blanket like you get at UHaul. I left it there for another 2 hours. Then I peeled the blanket off. The hardware was still kind of cold. I waited another hour, the hardware was warmer, and ripped it open, as Bob said. Holy mackerel what a gorgeous guitar! I picked her up and started scrutinizing. Beautiful! Plenty of saddle. Checked the neck angle. Not optimal. Straight edge comes about 2 mm below the top of the bridge. Not too bad. Holy sh--, is that some crazing on the top? I freaked, put her back in the case for a while....

Pulled her out a few hours later. Where's that crazing? I couldn't find it! There are some very light pick scratches that extend beyond the pick guard. That must have been what I saw. Those will probably rub out with some polish. I tuned her up. Whoa! This baby SINGS! Action is pretty reasonable. Maybe a slight bit high. Not a problem. I took a few quick pics - I'll have to conduct a more thorough photo session later. With the camera flash, it looks like there is some crazing coming down below the bridge (which looks like it had kind of a poor re-glue). Man, they are invisible unless you look at in just the right light. I wonder if my impatience caused that. Oh well, I can live with a couple invisible crazings on a 28-year-old guitar.

Box arrived OK...

Case was wrapped well....

Nice Guild case....

That brown tinge is reflection. The top is a very consistent, gorgeous blue....

That's a really pretty guitar!

Re: the shipping and the wait.

The other day I was expecting a delivery from amazon, and it was coming via their own service. When I checked the status online, they actually had a map showing the current location of the truck, and how many stops between the current location and my house. It was updating in "real" time and shortly after it said I was next, I was indeed next. Most impressive! Sure would be nice if the big shippers (UPS, FEDEX) would adopt something similar.

HOLy CRAP!! HOW DOES IT SOUND?? Like an orchestra, right??? :very_drunk:

Man, it sounds great. Just like a Westerly F-412, I'd speculate. I'll have to A/B it with my Corona JF30-12, which is gold standard in my book. I am loving this new one more and more. Just plugged her in. These electronics are great, too!

Unfortunately, I can't see the end block because it's covered by the 9V battery....

Crazing does come and go...

What is the deal?? I thought I saw it yesterday, now I don't! Is it the light? It's cloudy today so I don't have direct sunlight coming in the window. Still.... Weird!
