Hello Guild Folks -

I purchased a new F412 about a year ago. Without going in to the long story of "why" - I need a new saddle for this beast. The store that I purchased this from has had no luck getting a replacement - we keep getting blanks sent to us. I have not found a place on-line that has a premade Guild F412 saddle.. I have seen plenty for the "M" company, and the "T" company, but nothing for Guild..

Is there something I am missing - or do I have to add "Saddle Maker" to my resume..?..

Thanks - Mike

Hi Mike and welcome; wait awhile, we have a member who can probably help you. Whatever you do, don't put an M bridge on it or, at least don't do it and tell us about it ... your posting privileges will be cancelled. Just kidding .... sort of.

Wait a bit, help will be on its way. cj

Mike,

By the way, I haven't figured out what material the saddle that comes from the factory of our late-model F412/F512s is. Is yours a compensated saddle?

WOW..!!..
Thanks for the GREAT response on this..!!..

I don't know if my saddle is good for duplicating..

"they" had a manager - instead of the guitar tech - swap out the D-TAR system in this guitar (the original one had issues). He somehow managed to chip the top of the saddle, as it had notches under some of the strings.. I blamed these notches for excessive wear on the string - they would break within a few hours of replacing - sometimes sooner.

(I am replacing with the spec'd Guild strings)

In my "wisdom" I sanded out the notches (seemed like a really good idea at the time) and that has minimized the string breaking. However, using an old whet stone and a hand vice to grind these notches out did not keep the same curvature on the top of the saddle.

So - I am guessing that this saddle is of limited use for duplicating..
PLEASE - correct me if I am wrong..

This is a b-string compensated saddle..

So, Mike, here's the deal... Some time in 2006, the Tacoma, WA factory started using a new bridge/saddle on the F412/F512. You (and I) have the new version, which is B compensated. Mine is also "wave" style where the front edge of the saddle compensates forward as the strings get higher until the B string, when it's compensated back. I don't know if anyone has accurate specs on this thing for duplication (and yours, as you say, is probably not good to use).

I don't know if anyone is going to get any response from Guild/Fender for repair items for a while... So, I'm wondering how I can help. I assume you want to replace your saddle with an equivalent one. I could try to get mine duplicated locally for you and then send you one. You're in VT?

Dude -

That would be GREAT..!!..
Let me get the vernier caliper out tonight - to get a set of basic measurements of my saddle - just to be sure it is close to yours... That is, unless you are already certain that it is..

Yes, I am in Essex, Vermont - a town on the outskirts of Burlington.

OK, we'll work it out. I'm going to talk to my luthier about some "least downtime" way for me to get this done for ya. ;)

I'm sending you a PM with my particulars... Best wishes. -- Chaz

Howdy Mingus2112 -

Yep, there's Essex Town and Essex Junction - basically the same place.

I'm in the town - out in the boonies where no one can hear that 1,000 Watt PA. Oh, and it sounds GREAT running the F412 thru it..!!..
