Got rid of the other one and got this on Ebay thanks to a tip from a LTG member! With the exception of a gash in the back, and broken pickup rings, it looks, feels and plays like it just left the store 30 years ago. Amazing condition. There is no wear on the pickup bobbins. The bridge, which is always worn and tarnished on these guitars, is immaculate. Still not as nice as my original, but this one is quite nice!

Anyone know what's up with these knobs? The guy swears they've been on it since he bought it new in 1980. I've not seen a Guild without Guild knobs before.

Look at that bridge! And the clean unmarred pickup bobbins!

3-piece body isn't as cleanly matched as some, but the condition makes that unimportant.

Very nice.... personally, I don't mind that the pieces aren't "cleanly matched..." confers character on it, you ask me. Nice to see variation in the grain - makes it a more interesting and honest guitar in my opinion.

Excellent score - and in great shape, considering! I have to think those knobs are aftermarket, though.

I've seen those knobs on dozens of S-300s. I have doubts about all of them having aftermarket knobs. Hans would know for sure, but I would feel safe calling them original too.

Nice score. Looks like the original owner took good care of it. I really like the neck on these models; so fast and comfy. Neat looking knobs none the less.

Interesting. I have never seen those kind of knobs before!?

I really like the late 1980 and 1981 S300 style without the pickguard. I came real close to bidding on the one that sold on ebay last week to replace my current A-D.

I almost bought that S300 myself, but didn't like the fact that it didn't have a pickguard. :)

Nobody has 'em! Hans, Jay, Fender/Guild, they're all out.

It's funny, the one thing I've always disliked about Guild electrics is the cheap knobs. Now I can't find a set when I want them! That's my life in a nutshell right there. :)

Maybe I'll take the set from my '00 SF4 and put them on my S300A-D, then put some Gibson vintage amber looking tophats on my SF4.

I was thinking of putting some Gretsch knobs on my orange X170, but those have gold tops.

Knowing me I'll end up buying an S100 just for the knobs. :)

He seems to have become scarce around here since the acquisition of his dce-1. I could try to fill in.

Does she have another sister, or will you monopolize the whole family?

Hey thanks for stepping up. I feel a little better now. :)

I think this is my last one. I sold the other one at a loss after leaving the only negative feedback in my 10 years on Ebay. This one is so cherry except for a nick in the back that my plans of getting my original back are now even being doubted. Those knobs have got to go though. Top hat knobs are OK, but these things are like Abe Lincoln top hat knobs!

Yup. Original or not , those things are silly. I never understood why anyone would want pointer knobs (as opposed to numbered) with an indicator mark on the body. Given, the numerical system is pretty arbitrary. I still think you can at least achieve better reference that way. Again, that thing was a nice score.
