Last May I purchased a black S-284 on eBay. I promised a review, and here it is:

Hey Pointy guitars rule!

This set neck strat style guitar is a bit unusual in that it has three individual on-off switches instead of a normal 5 way switch. I really like this feature.. The pickups that came with the guitar were supposed to be Duncans but turned out to be the Duncan designed. I knew I wanted to upgrade them as soon as I first played the guitar and talked to a Duncan rep at Merlefest... I put in two Classic Stack single pole pickups and a SH-1 (AKA 59 model) four wire humbucker... the four wire setup was required because there is a fourth switch which allow me to split the coil or change the phase of the humbucker... For the plunking around blues playing that I do this is about as close the the perfect sound that I have found. I like teles, and have a Baja and Nashville, but somehow this is the tone I've been looking for..

It is a Guild neck so I love it. This guitar was made when Guild was IMO outdoing Fender so the workmanship and fit and finish is first rate. Nothing is uncomfortable about this Guild...

The bad part is the Kayler bridge which requires me to retune if I use it. I think I will just leave it alone...

Oh it did take 6 months for my guitar techs to get the pickups, install them and readjust them to my liking.. but everything is good now. I'm not in a place with any real bandwidth so pictures are out of the question at this time.
