Thinking I should have already purchase Hans' book, maybe the answer is in there ...

Qvart recently made mention of the perceived difference between the HBs in his '72 S-90 vs a '74 S-100, with the latter apparently being preferrable. He also mentioned hearing that the p/us had changed somehow in '73. Is that true? If so, when did the change happen? Would I be able to tell by serial number if a '73 has the earlier or later p/us?

Thanks all.

I'll see if I can scrounge up whatever site I vaguely remember seeing that on. And, BTW, I've never popped them out to see if there's any info to glean. No time when they're being played!

Of course I could be dreaming. But there is a difference. Or is there? Hmm...

I know of one difference which I mentioned in my picture post. The earlier HB-1s were not equipped for an in/out-of-phase option. The inference here is that the wiring after the windings would have to be different. As to the coil wire or winds per coil, I would be ill-qualified to answer. I too would like to know what other differences there were or if that is the only one.

So far I've found mention of new wiring and phase switches (in a catalog blurb next to a guitar with no phase switch). So maybe that's a piece of the puzzle. Or maybe it's just my particular guitars. Freaks! ;)

I suppose I could test the older ones that I have lying around. I didn't use them in the Red because they weren't phase enabled. I'll get my digital multimeter out and give it a go.

Go for it. I don't have the testing gear. And as much as I geek out on research projects this is one for Hans to answer. All my search hits point to him anyway! ;)

Of course, it could just be me. Or something else about the guitars. Who knows. I just play 'em.

oops, somehow submitted that one twice.

Now this one is empty.

More or less.

Move on, move on, nothing to see here...
