Crappy weather on the day before Thanksgiving:

Bleh.

That is all. Barely counts as a rant. :)

Yeah, this was Tuesday night. It was still there Weds AM.

End of rant.

And.... Yesterday and today were beautiful, and I was able to do my final fall cleanup post-Thanksgiving... That's rare. :) Front yard is complete! :) The little white patches around the edges are all that's left of the melt-down from Tuesday's snow.

Well, it's been mostly a rant-free winter for me so far here in MA.

But today I need to talk some s**t about my 2020 Subaru WRX. I just have to.

I love this car. The entire driving experience is totally "me." Really. To be clear, I've owned a LOT of cars over the years, and it's not my lifetime favorite -- the nod for that goes to my 2002 Honda S2000 -- but it's a firm second place... Until today, that is.

My only big gripe with this Subaru is that the tire-pressure monitoring (TPMS) only allows programming for one set of wheels at a time. I find that inexcusable and have lambasted Subaru for that for years. In New England, a lot of us, especially those of us with sporting cars, mount winter tires on dedicated wheels and swap them on/off with the seasons.

The "one sensor memory" limitation on the Subaru electronics is a shameless product design issue to force you to the dealer. No one else has access to the equipment to program these things. Like I said that pisses me off.

But all that is a preview to my trip to the dealer today in which I asked them to look at the window lifts and why they intermittently get upset when I raise them and don't close.

"So, Charlie, the tech says it is more involved than we'd hoped and the motors and guides would need to be replaced. ~$1000"

Me: "Well, no, we're not doing that." Translation: "F**K that!!! Why aren't you replacing these for free. It's clearly a design issue. I don't give a s**t that my 4 year old car is out of warrantee."

OK, rant over. I'm done.

My 2016 Miata you could shut down the idiot light when I put on my winter tire and rims from the dashboard menu. My 2019 apparently I would have to install a second set of tire pressure sensors to shut off the idiot light. Still at least it will apparently talk to both sets without a trip to the dealer. It’s really even more inexcusable that an AWD car can’t deal with a set of winter wheels.

Probably pretty easy to change yourself. Find a youtube video and go for it!

You never struck me as a rally car type guy. :geek:
My WRX may have rally blood in its ancestry, but it has yet to go (seriously) off road. The body cladding and the height of the car just don't really lend it to serious rallying. It's just a sporty sedan with AWD, manual transmission, and enough "go" to make me happy. You can't touch it unless you go German, which'll be 2-3 times the price. Like I said, I love it, and it's "me," but seriously....

If it were a convertible, I'd seriously consider tossing my sports car (currently a Miata) and going with just one car. I've owned sports cars all my life and I've had one with my daily driver in the stable when I've been able to.

Chaz, Chaz, Chaz...two things...

First, you bought a SUBARU! What do you expect! (Bet it came from Patrick's, right?)

Second, the one time I rode with you to see Kim in CT in that Honda was just wonderful, never even knew that car existed, at the time ;)

Hey, the new Hyundai Ioniq-6 looks like a Porsche, pity WE DON'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO CHARGE IT IN MASSACHUSETTS!...note the beginning of a new rant here :p

Don't know them...prolly better than North End or Patrick...I have to go to Nashua now for our Hyundai's, local dealer sold out to a giant-multi-dealer two years ago, and service has gone down the toilet, warranty or simple oil changes

At least in the metro Boston area, it may actually be a zoning issue, if you could believe it...then, there is the (state) Massachusetts Turnpike that gave a contract to a company that cannot get parts for the broken ones (can anyone say "low bid?)...and on, and on. In my city of 45,000 we have one large Tesla-only bank at the dying mall, and then ONE...count it ONE outside a large supermarket, fairly well hidden (my guess it is one Tesla and one non-Tesla)...never seen a car on it...It!

Chime in other Massachusetts members if I have misspoken...

Bill,
Those who insist on being trend setters and geting in on the ground floor of new technologies often suffer the consequences of insufficient infrastructure to service them.
Friends here in Toronto who have electric cars, without exception have a gasoline powered, or hybrid vehicle as well, because of the lack of charging stations that make long trips impossible, just to name one of the problems they face.
Nothing we'd consider for the forseeable future.

Agreed, @RBSinTo ...we have a 2017-vintage hybrid that gives us just shy of 600 miles on a tankful, which for us 'geezers translates
to one day of driving. We can make Kaufman Acoustic Kamp, just south of Knoxville, TN and still have gas to motor around with until we leave :D

Well in Las Vegas... we have charging stations EVERYWHERE!! And some of these people don't have charging stations at home. They go to the mall-ish places near Walmart and plug them in. And there are people in line for an empty station to open up. Why don't you charge at home overnight?? Why go somewhere .... I'm at a loss. Honestly. They're not horrible cars but when catch Lyft or Uber with those hideous glass tops?? YIKES!! If I want my head roasted I go outside.... jeeze!! So in summer in Vegas.... avoid the stupid Teslas....
