Vandalism like this really does grind my gears!

This tree was an iconic sight Hadrian's wall, which is also a popular coast to coast walk, which I did about 30 years ago. It was also featured in the movie Robin Hood : Prince of Thieves.

Yes I’ve been there.
It’s a disgrace.

Just had a thought, which in no way makes this destruction acceptable. I'm wondering if they have any plans to use the wood. Being such an iconic tree on a World Heritage landmark, products could be sold, with some of the profits going to help with maintenance of the wall. Could even be used to make guitars!

There's been discussion of that, as well as using the wood to make some kind of memorial on the site. Ultimately it will be up to the park to make the call -- still way too early to know.

Not me. I've been known to cut the bottle open and scrape the remains out into a jar or squirt bottle. Shampoo, lotion, whatever. I can spatula a mayonnaise jar nearly clean but that lump in the bottom of the jar keeps me from getting the last smear or two.

"Frugal is the new cool." Used to hear that on some kinda savings tips videos on YouTube.
You could use a radius gauge to measure the hump (which is a packaging enhancement for strength) and then cut a corresponding notch in your spatula. Which would then become your dedicated mayonnaise jar spatula.

You'll know when you've achieved expert notching status when you can cut a spatula for the little grooves on the bottom and sidewalls of cans of chili. It only took me about 5 tries.

'S too bad it wasn't next to your house (courtesy of David Thomas on Google Quora):

This is “The Spite House” in Old Town Alexandria VA? The Hollensbury Spite House on Queen Street was built in 1830 after the owner of a townhouse was tired of people loitering in the alley next to his home. So he turned an alley only 7 feet wide into a tiny house in order to keep away the riff raff and stop them from vandalizing his walls and meeting outside of his side windows. What do you think about that?

That'll show 'em!!

I’ll bet the value has more than stayed ahead of inflation.

I can’t tell you how much I hate those cheap screws that come pre-packaged with most gizmos you get at the big box hardware store. I usually just immediately toss them and use my own known supply of screws.

Today I didn’t while putting up some tool hangers because I was too lazy. After the third one stripped I gave there rest of that worthless junk the old heave ho.

I prefer "road boulder."
An ROTD that bears repeating! Left lane boulders drive me inordinately insane. :) Someone posted a picture in the "signs of the times" thread that is a massive pet peeve of mine. I.e., only old farts like me obey the keep right except to pass rule/guideline any more. I just don't drive like an old fart. :)

We got lucky and the renters across the street left. They were somewhere on the Trailer Trash spectrum. We got unlucky that the new renters might be worse. Before the first week was over, there are a washer and drier and a fridge in front of the garage and 4 derelict Hondas just to one side of the garage and one of them on jack stands, plus a motorcycle. Add to that a 5th wheel in-front of the fence next to the road. Come on, the place is on an acre with a big drive though gate to a really big metal garage with the original owner restored cars. Why is all this not in the back on all the concrete and out of few when ever I look out a window? I swear the owner must advertise on CraigsList for renters. I liked the owners Dad. He was quiet and made it to 100.

That's a toughie, John. I react strongly to the appearance of my neighbors' homes, but I never run into anything like that in my neighborhood. I wish you well with that; I would be pretty annoyed.

Our old house before we downsized, (don't ever do that) was lovely. Nice big lots, nice homes and the guy across the street.... his sister bought the house and he moved in. First it was too many cars. 3 car garage with no cars inside and 5-6 cars and trucks always around ... driveway, corner, everywhere. You have to understand that all these houses were on large lots and we all had a huge boat/rv parking space next to the homes. So then he acquired a boat. A rather large boat. Which he had to move 2 trucks to accommodate and so now more cars and trucks on the street. THEN, he acquired MORE vehicles and moved the huge boat and trailer into the front yard.... right in the middle on the corner!!

So then I'd had enough... so I called Clark County and tried to lodge a complaint. The lady was so nice and then she said, "Uh, sorry, you're kinda late, we already have 3 complaints on that property and they've been contacted by us and I'll file your additional complaint, but now it goes up the chain!" The boat went to the side and the cars kinda became less.....

But good grief. Then they calmed down somewhat, and then we moved. Happy to be here in my little one street gated place. We're all kinda liberal about stuff. But no one tries to park a huge YACHT in your front yard..... at least, not yet.:eek:

We know the owner, but he's lives " down the hill " somewhere. We could call and tell him to get on them, but the house right next to his has an acre of cars and trucks crammed in the back year like a salvage yard. Clarence has been there and like that for over 27 years and he's quiet. I wish he would get rid of most of them. I think he became a vehicle hoarder.

The cars straight across have the stupid fart tube exhaust too. Sigh.

Amazon Prime. I pay a lot of hard-earned money each month for this. I started re-watching an old favorite of mine, Farscape. Great. First season, no commercials, all good. Now start the second season, and you're into FreeVee.... This totally pisses me off. I HATE FreeVee. So, this is a little more than a rant. I'm considering cancelling Prime for a while.

I forgot about Farscape! That was a good show. Yeah, Murder She Wrote and others are FreeVee, but I find I don't really mind commercials so much. I just doodle on the computer or go get a beverage or something. Not something I'd cancel Prime over. They took The Adventures of Merlin off Netflix, but I found it on Prime, so I'm thinking of rewatching that one.
