I know I'm setting myself up to be blitzed, but I'm here to learn. I have some nice Martin and Gibson guitars and I'm interested in Guilds, too, just haven't had the round tuit until recently.
So, what I am trying to achieve with my guitars is variety. I'd like to have a representative of each decade, starting in the '20s, different tonewoods, different body sizes/styles, probably sticking with flat top acoustics, but maybe there's an archtop for me somewhere. I have Rosewood, Mahogany, and Cherry Martin, Gibson & Seagull size 2, 0, 00, OM, and D from the 20's, 30's, 60's, 80's, 90's and 00's. So a Guild jumbo maple (F-40?) from the 70's would neatly fill a niche, or a 12-string might appeal, so I could possibly pass on my Gibby 12 string. Anyway, those are my current thoughts, not locked into anything; if there's any models that are particular standouts, I'd love to know.

Thanks

Doug

DV-52's from the '90s are definitely nice. :D Only a half-notch down from the top of the line D-55 but more affordable. The Tacoma made D-50's are also really sweet, pretty much the same guitar as the DV-52.

That is assuming you want a rosewood/spruce dread...

Welcome to LTG!

You could fill the maple and '70s niches with either a maple jumbo (F-50s have quite a rep) or maple dread (G-37, D-44M) from that decade. Being a "dreadful guy" myself, I'd recommend the G-37. Mine is from '74, and is a sweet guitar. Or, you can go for a less common tonewood... I'd highly recommend an ash D-46. They come up on eBay a couple times a year (two very recently). Jay Pilzer at New Hope Guitars has one (a second, but the blemish is probably lost to aging, by now). Bass is nearly as good as rosewood, and the trebles are better.

Good hunting!

Guild makes the best 12 strings hands down. I wouldn't even consider any other make they're that good. Every good guitar collection should have one.

Check out everything made in Tacoma, WA. I personally think they are the equal of anything the company has ever made, maybe even better.
