I was saddened and surprised this morning when I read about his passing!
My guitar will always find time to play his songs.
Hope that he finds that one particular Harbor!

Boy this is scary. Jimmy and I were born on the very same day (December 26) in the very same year (1946).
Well then Rich please just take it easy on the margaritas and cheeseburgers. We don’t want you going anywhere too soon.

My wife used to work with a couple of very anal-retentive, ethically-minded attorneys (the kind you need to hire, by the way) who would dress up in their best shark outfits and go to JB concerts whenever he came to town. They were kind of embarassing when they'd get all worked up into their JB frenzy. I guess it was their way of letting their "dark side" shine for an evening.

I recall first hearing "Come Monday" on the radio when it came out in 1974 and I thought it was Roger Miller trying a comeback. That and "Margaritaville" are really the only tunes I know offhand and still hear. But it shows how one or two well-crafted tunes with some radio play luck can build a career. RIP.

I can't say I was ever much of a fan of his music, but he always looked like he was having a great time! RIP
Kind of agree with Sandy, I also wasn't a fan of his music. I didn't dislike it; it just wasn't my thing. Outside of Margaritaville which everyone knows. I couldn't name a second one of his songs. But can't argue with his success.

He certainly built a great money machine. Lesson to be learned is to keep it simple, keep the audience stoned and having fun, and capitalize on everything you can.

It seems many great successes had a very cult-like following. Jimmy was certainly at the top of the heap in that realm.

Big parrot head here. My wife and I are big fans of his music. When we lived in Puerto Rico we would always go on vacation at the Margaritaville resort, which was only an hour or so from our place. They played the Margaritaville station all day and you got unlimited Margaritas in the package. It had a time share attached and you had to take a two-hour time share pitch to get the unlimited margaritas, but it was worth it.

I loved the concerts. I mean, where else can you go to a concert and throw beach balls up on stage and have them kick them back to you? I just loved the free wheeling atmosphere of them.

I'm on the wagon, and hardly ever eat red meat anymore. Beat prostate cancer some six years back and doing pretty good so far.
Thanks for the kind words, HeyMikey.
