There was recently a brief discussion of this issue
on this thread. Scroll down to the photos and read Default's post. I don't know if that pivot pin is moveable in your (new) switch, but maybe you can try to also tap it out a little more, in order for the threads to reach past the surface and screw onto the nut. Hardcore restorers will often just replace this part in order to keep the original switch.
If you can't move it out, you may have to get a different switch. Depending on the year of your SF, I'm assuming you have a right angle toggle switch--right? This is a stacked Switchcraft LEV-R® switch series 12000. They do come in different stack heights, so you can get one slightly longer. Check out

Under Products > Switches > Lev-R Switch Series 12000. I suggest you try to measure the depth of the hole, then call up a local supplier to make sure you get the right one with the desired length for the pin. Don't forget that part number :wink: !
