The recent dreads I've gotten have badly beaten cases. Outside of chasing down one of the Ebay ones, which seem to go for a little to a lot, is there a source for a good TKL or Geib type case? What size would work best?
Thanks,
tj

TJ,
It can be dicey buying a case w/o a test fit... you might look around your local shops and see what they carry. If a flat-topped case will work, I got one of these (TKL 7815): http://www.tkl.com/site_item_detail...L+Premier+Dreadnought+6/12+String+Guitar+Case locally for $95. It fits (just a bit loosely) all the Guild dreads I have tested it on (D-25, D-35, and G-37). You can find them on-line cheaper, but it will work out to be about the same once you pay shipping. Also, check your local shops for used cases... I picked up a used velvet-lined, arched top TKL in great shape (just needed a little dusting off) for my D-55 for $65 at a local shop. My D-46 came in one of these SKB cases: http://www.skbcases.com/music/produ...s_tsa_locks-1-75&id=229&o=&offset=1&c=75&s=75 (Can anyone tell me the significance of the "TSA-approved" latches?).

One thing to pay attention to is the overall length. The Guild headstock is larger than your typical dread... and can require a 12-string case. I have browsed (but never bought) a lot here: http://www.finecases.com/browse/cas...cases.html?powerSort=Dreadnought Guitar Cases. The Guardian and Canadian cases look to be good quality. Again... pay attention to the length (as well as bout size and depth) because of the elegant Guild headstock.

Good luck,
Dave

As usual, the obvious is right in front of me!

Thanks for the tips. I have a HD-28 and pulled out the case and both the D40 and D46 fit fine in it, with just about an inch or so of head room. The search will be much easier now. Also, now that I think about it, I have an ok old Epi case up in the garage rafters too.
Again thanks,
tj

Musicians Friend is having a big sale with 15% off a lot of items (including cases) and free shipping over $99. I'm thinking if I get 3 cases that are under $50 each, i'm good to go. They have their "house brand" which claims to be 5 ply and is only like $40 or something. That's a pretty great deal!

I bought this case $59.00 free shipping http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=541694 just before Christmas and my F212 and D25 both fit nicely. I was surprised how nice it was. The case was a little on the stinky side at first, they must of used hide glue but it has mostly gone away. Someone commented that the first case was a dead ringer for the Geib case. Here's some picture of the Geib case on Elderly's site. http://www.elderly.com/accessories/name ... -D12FR.htm
I would say it's a dead ringer, just minus the Martin name plate and who wants a Martin name plate on the outside with a beautiful Guild inside.

I'm still short a case and I'll probably buy this one next. $ 49.00 for the tweed http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=540945

Good Luck!
