If you had a chance to have a guitar re-created from Guild's past, and available now, what would it be?

I'm gonna pick an odd duck.

The X-92 Citron Breakaway. The serial number list says there were 129 made, but I don't believe that for an instant. I'd guess more like 29 or less. Probably a lot less. Who knows, except maybe Harvey Citron, and maybe Hans. I've never even seen one mentioned outside of the one pictured in the GP review, much less one for sale.

And what have we got here? Essentially a full-scale strat, with a cool removeable section to keep the size small for travel, but snaps on for easier play. What's not to like?

What would you pick?

I think I'll go with the Thunderbirds as a reissue-both mini humbucker and single coil. The DeArmond Jetstars were a good start but they lack the slim neck and controls of the Thunderbird. Oh and it must have a Hagstrom tremer but I would add a different bridge.

There are so many, I wouldn't know where to begin. For starters, the entire DV line, the decked out F40 Valencia, the D100 and JF100. The D70 and the DK70. Guild acoustics made of Brazilian rosewood (although I gather the trees are scarce), the D60 and the entire GF, GV line. I'm sure there are many more.

Wonder if Guild/Fender has any brazilian stashed?

West...you cant harvest Brz anymore, unless you dig up an old stump. Most makers who have some have had it for many years. And they ain't giving it up cheap.

Just dreaming, that's all.

Basses :)

I'd love to see the hollow body Bluesbird (M-85) available for something other than collector's prices ($2-2.5k) as long as they got the pickups right.

Just over US $1000.

While I know just enough about NZ to laugh at sheep jokes, I don't know what the exchange ratio is - $1 US ~ $1.5 NZ?

Alas, the bass in question is a solid body Bluesbird and post 1971 when Guild switched to the pickups that everyone loves to hate. But thanks anyway.

Ya got me, another amazing Craigslist find. Even more amazing how quickly the opportunity to use it came along.

Hello Kap'n,

Well, it had to be something I don't have yet. What I would like is not exactly a reissue of something they did but they could have done it!

It would be a spruce-topped Nightbird without the 'bling'; pretty much like a Nightbird I but with single-coil pickups (white-cover DeArmonds will do) and a Bigsby (the short one without the 'tension-bar'); preferably with a 'Black' finish and 'nickel' parts.

Do you need a down payment?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Sorry Hans, I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been.

I meant for over $2,500, rather than buy a travelguitar, I could buy 25 $100 guitars, and leave them all across the country. Then I wouldn't have to deal with the EMGs or Kahler, either.

A DeArmond/Bigsby equipped Nightbird sounds sweet, though, but make mine amberburst.

You know, a Nightbird with Armstrongs or EMGs would probably be a nice candidate for Magnatrons and a Stetsbar. :D

Hello Kap'n,

You don't have to be sorry. I completely understood what you were saying. I have 2 of those Citrons (one S/S/S and one S/S/H) but I would never pay that kind of money for one. Not a big fan of the EMGs and Kahler either but I guess at that time they were the 'big thing'. They are actually well designed instruments and they're cool enough to keep in the collection.

Amberburst is a great color! Why did you ever sell your's?

I know you never liked the Kent Armstrongs that much. I do like 'm!
The nice thing about the EMGs is that they're standard size, so it's very easy to do experiments with other pickups. The Stetsbar is a neat design but I like the 'feel' of the old-fashioned Bigsby. It's great though to see people coming out with something that doesn't ruin your instrument forever.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I knew it was early/rare enough that I didn't want to risk trashing it in the bars I play at, and I'm of the mindset that doesn't want guitars if I'm not playing them.

I usually play strats/LPs/Gretsches now, which are completely replaceable.
