OK, the previous 'Glue Removal' thread caught my attention, but my problem is a bit different. I knew this was going to be a major project, and I've always wanted a headless guitar... so I got this Burnside by Guild 'Tele' or T250 copy that had the head stock badly broken off. I ended getting it for shipping since the seller refunded my purchase price when I opened the box and the headstock slid out - not attached. Anyways, one of the first things I need to do is remove the wood glue that dripped on the front of the guitar when the previous owner tried to glue the headstock on. The drip is about an inch long and dried for months! I'm amazed at how well it's bonded with the top. I have 'Oops!' that smells like lighter fluid, I'll check what the active ingredient is, but does anyone know if this might work -- or if something else will take this hardened wood glue off?

I love the color of this guitar - a beautiful Yellow-Orange-Red sunburst, and I want to keep this finish!

Thanks in advance...

Probably just my confusion with terminology but isn't plain wood glue the white stuff that is water soluble? If so, a damp cloth might be worth trying.

Once wood glue fully cures, it would take a long soak to really redissolve it.

You're not going to get it off without affecting the finish. A sharp chisel and a steady hand would be your best bet.

I'm with Acorn on this one. Chipping the dried glue off is the way to go. Whenever you glue with wood glue, NEVER wipe away drips with a wet sponge or rag!! Always let the glue dry fully, and then chip it off. It takes a steady hand and care, but it should just chip off.
