Refinishing question

If I have the body of a Guild tele, flyer, or detonator refinished in a sunburst, would the old nontranslucent solid color "paint" finish have to be removed? I'm thinking that if the final result will show no grain, then a primer or undercoat of some kind could cover the old finish (without removing the old finish) and then a nontranslucent sunburst (of the same type of solid color "paint" as the original) could be applied.

Any binding? How many layers of clear coat do you want to have to build up so the finish around the binding is level with the rest? Other than that, why not?

Thanks, Don. That's good news, especially from a cost standpoint. There wouldn't be any body binding.
