Mose Dreds are built to hold up to medium strings but that doesn't mean that you have to use mediums on one.
If you are getting everything that you need from light strings, there is no reason to use anything else.
I play at a weekly jam where there are 6 or more guitars a few mandolins and a banjo or two.
I need medium gauge strings to keep up.
Another good reason to use lights is the lower stress that they put on a guitar.
