Ray Bonneville treated us to an afternoon of Delta Blues in the little town of Elbert Colorado today. The stage was a hay trailer in a barn, there were 30 people at this house concert. What an amazing show he puts on.
Ray's main guitar is a 1961 Aristocrat with black P90's, a simple G headstock, gold Klusons, sunburst spruce top, and a pickguard that is interesting but doesn't appear stock to me. Oh, and it had a gold adjust-o-matic bridge.
Guitar 2 is a 1961 Gibson Melodymaker that he added P90's to and tunes for slide. He told me he uses P90's on everything. Normally plays only solid-body guitars but saw this Aristocrat in a "junk store" in Iowa and had to have it. It's in great condition and sounds amazing in his hands.
He said he toured the plant in Westerly in 1971 and picked up an acoustic when he was there - described it as "dark". Maybe a D25M? or M20? Don't know. Anyways, add Ray Bonneville to the list of Guild players.
Here's Ray Bonneville holding his Melodymaker on the hay-trailer stage. The Aristocrat is in the foreground...I apologize that I didn't get the picture with him holding the Aristocrat but I was using his cell phone to get the picture at his request - he said he had to have a picture or nobody would believe it!
Here's the "concert hall"
This was a great setting for a concert, very interactive with the crowd...maybe a bit of a stretch to call it a crowd!
