With us having moved, we don't make town much anymore other than to do a little work at the home that belonged to my mother. Guildmark has been to that house for a visit, it's right in the middle of town and a very clean, well kept, middle class neighborhood.
Before we built, we sold our old house and since mother had passed away, we rented mom's place from my siblings at a discounted rate and an agreement to spiffy the place up a bit.
We moved in April and with our house, yard coming in and so much to do out here, the old home place had grown up. Hedges needed trimmed as did the sidewalks and the flower beds needed cleaned out badly. We got by there when we could, but it was starting to look pretty shabby.
Mother had a man named Miguel that had charged her the same rate......$20 a week to mow, trim and fertilize.
He did her yard for the 15 years after dad died until she passed away. While we lived there, we maintained it, but nowhere near as nicely as Miguel did. A few days ago, I called Miguel to ask him to completely redo the flower beds and put the yard back on his weekly maintenance route as we're getting ready to sell the place.
Tonight Miguel called me to tell me that he had killed 9.......that's NINE copperheads in the front flower bed. I can't tell you how many times I've stuck my hand in the flower bed to pull a weed. The mom and the dad, as two of them were 2 1/2" long....and 7 babies. He also told me that the city crews are killing hundereds of them a week. I've never heard of an infestation like this around here.
Here we are way out in the country, watching every step we take......and have seen 1 garter snake (that I let live by the way). Heck, there aren't any out here......they're all in the middle of town! Don't let you shrubs get too big or the weeds get away from you.
