Know all those clubs well. Although Stache's was a major dive, it was important because there were never any clubs that brought in unknown bands before it's existence. Here's a VERY abbreviated list of bands I saw there: Nirvana, Yo La Tengo, Pixies, Soundgarden, Sun Ra, Koko Talyor, GG Allin, GBV, John Lee Hooker, Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus Lizard, Willie Dixon, Sonny Sharrock, etc. I mean I could go on forever. It was a recommended venue for all new bands on their way to the East Coast during the late 80s and early 90s. Although this predates your time a little, Bernie's and Apollo's (above Freakin' Pizza) were the only other places for new rock bands to play in town. Believe it or not, but Beck played at Bernie's (the Distillery) and White Zombie played at Apollo's!

That is an impressive list! Lucky time to be in Cbus!

Oh, I did see Smashing Pumpkins once in Dayton. During the Siamese Dream Billy-Corgan-being-a-dick phase. Glad he grew up and out of that.

Yeah, Staches was part of that whole national network that grew from the grassroots from the '80's through the '90's. I only saw local hardcore shows there, back during the copycatting of successive fads: straight edge, neo-Nazi crap, Jock psuedo Boston-core, Hare Krishna, etc. I wasn't able to get up there for shows as much as I would have liked to - either too young, couldn't drive, or in college, no time. I did see Into Another in Dayton. That was cool. And - a show I'm very glad I got to see - the Sex Pistols reunion in '96 at Nautica Stage by the river in Cleveland. Sweet! You know, I wasn't too far from Pittsburgh either but that was even harder to get to - nobody wanted to go that direction, always Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati. Saw a Punk-o-Rama tour there with Guttermouth (!).

That's about it. Not as impressive as your list but good times.

OH! - and LUNACHICKS at Bernie's!!!! Hellzyeah!

\m/ -_- \m/

Wait, what time period were you in Columbus? Some friends of mine had bands that played there in the '90's. If you were there maybe you heard the names - Catalyst, Three Studies for a Crucifixion. Now there's still a couple guys there in Black Dove and Teeth of the Hydra. Went from hardcore to more doom and gloom/black metal. Good bands, both of 'em. One of the TOTH guys was in Party of Helicopters. Another friend of mine was in Blatant Finger. Ah, it's all coming back...
