I have a 93 JF 30 that I enjoy a great deal, however my daughter's boyfriend is borrowing it for a time and because I like him if he likes it I may just sell it to him. That means I'd have to replace it, but I'm wondering how the new Guild Maple Jumbos compare. I wouldn't be in a position to try them out, I'd have to buy online.

I'd keep the vintage JF-30 and let him buy the new one...

This isn't exactly the answer you're looking for, but I have a 98 JF30 and a 19 F-55. The quality on the F55 is excellent, no drop off. The F55 is a little lighter, but not much so. The biggest difference in build is that the F55 neck is a bit shallower than the JF30 - If I haven't play the F55 for a while, it takes an hour or so for my hand to adjust to the difference.

Hopefully this is helpful as you compile information.

Great advice from the selfless guy who gave his son the prettiest DV-52 on earth for a graduation present.

Amen. Agreed.

I think there is a significant difference in the necks of the old JF-30s in that they were also made of maple. My JF-30-12 has a tiger stripe lamination, and is really beautiful. I think the 6-strings were the same, though I'm not 100% sure. The modern maple jumbos have mahogany laminations. Beautiful in their own right, but I really dig the maple neck for these guitars.
