One of the floating bigsby types, not the screw in type. If you slap that on a SFII, is it going to harm the SFII in any way (other than the felt feet maybe doing some finish rubbing on the top)? In other words, when you work the twang bar by pushing down into the top, wouldn't that put the top in danger of cracking? Does the SFIII have a post or something under the top to guard against this, something the SFII doesn't have? The last time I put a bigsby on something, it was a semihollow so no worries - drill into the block, you're done. But with a thinline hollowbody I'm completely lost. Any insight folks? Again, not saying I'm doing it, just wondering in case i get tempted in the future. Thanks!

Hello Jahn,

No, that wouldn't harm the guitar in any way. Actually, there is no structural difference between the models.
What would become a Starfire III and what would be a Starfire II was decided in 'final assembly'; kind of a lottery really!
And if we want to be entirely correct we should include the Starfire I as well.

Sincerely,

WHEW load off my mind, thanks Hans! I just got a ridiculously killer Matt Artinger Blondie Jr. Semi-hollow (actually, hollow with a post) thinline with a harp-type tailpiece which kinda made my SFII the odd man out. I just put the SFII up at Matt Umanov's for consignment but now I'm thinking of ways to keep it in the family - ergo, the twangmaster idea (and totally reversible, which is a nice thing). Hmmmmmm!
