Well, now that I've read some of the newbie intro posts, I realiized that I never properly intro'd myself to the group. I just jumped in and started posting. This should probably go into misc, but this is where I hang out most.
So, 38, live in North Dallas, and I've been playing for about 2 years. About 17 years ago a roommate paid off a debt to me with a late '80s Epiphone acoustic. It sat in the closet until I pulled it out 2 years ago. I learned to play by working through David Hodge's lessons for beginners on http://www.guitarnoise.com. If you've never visited the site, its great. Same friendly feel at LTG, lots of extremely knowledgable people, professional musicians, teachers, etc that are always willing to answer questions.
So not long after starting to play I found a GAD-JF30 ATB that I fell in love with. It was a huge upgrade from the Epi. Now I'm the proud owner of a 1978 D25CH that I'm in love with. She's been played, and she has the dings to show it, but she's gorgeous and has a really warm tone that is just what I was looking for.
So ever since I learned the two chords and rythm to "Horse with no name", I've been obsessed with all things guitar, particularly acoustics. Something drew me to the Guilds, and while looking for a D25 I found this site. I'm a beginner hack with aspirations to maybe play an open mic someday (not soon!!)
No gigging or playing in church for me yet. Just playing for myself, and occassionally my wife and daughter.
Anyway, thats my story. Glad to have found this place! If you're at the Arlington or Dallas guitar shows and see a tall skinny guy with glasses looking at Guilds, thats me, and if I'm lucky I've got some money in my pocket.
