Well, now that I've read some of the newbie intro posts, I realiized that I never properly intro'd myself to the group. I just jumped in and started posting. This should probably go into misc, but this is where I hang out most.

So, 38, live in North Dallas, and I've been playing for about 2 years. About 17 years ago a roommate paid off a debt to me with a late '80s Epiphone acoustic. It sat in the closet until I pulled it out 2 years ago. I learned to play by working through David Hodge's lessons for beginners on http://www.guitarnoise.com. If you've never visited the site, its great. Same friendly feel at LTG, lots of extremely knowledgable people, professional musicians, teachers, etc that are always willing to answer questions.

So not long after starting to play I found a GAD-JF30 ATB that I fell in love with. It was a huge upgrade from the Epi. Now I'm the proud owner of a 1978 D25CH that I'm in love with. She's been played, and she has the dings to show it, but she's gorgeous and has a really warm tone that is just what I was looking for.

So ever since I learned the two chords and rythm to "Horse with no name", I've been obsessed with all things guitar, particularly acoustics. Something drew me to the Guilds, and while looking for a D25 I found this site. I'm a beginner hack with aspirations to maybe play an open mic someday (not soon!!)

No gigging or playing in church for me yet. Just playing for myself, and occassionally my wife and daughter.

Anyway, thats my story. Glad to have found this place! If you're at the Arlington or Dallas guitar shows and see a tall skinny guy with glasses looking at Guilds, thats me, and if I'm lucky I've got some money in my pocket.

Hey Brian, welcome to LTG, officially.

Your story is similar to mine, except with the living in Dallas thing and the roommate thing, and the Epiphone, never mind there are similarities in there.

Guitarnoise is where I started and it is a great site, I have my wife logging in there now and she's thrilled with playing the guitar.

As for Arlington, we're returning in '08, so we'll look forward to meeting you in person. Bring your GAD and jam with us where ever we'll be.

As for the hack thing, that's where I consider myself at the moment but these guys make you feel so comfortable and I learned quite a bit just from being with them for a few, too short, days. For example, did you know that calf fries don't come in pairs, but a whole plate? Huh? And no wonder cows are even tempered, their balls are deep fried when they're just pups. I'm not making this stuff up.

From one newbie to another, "Welcome". I think it's terrific that you have picked up the guitar, especially a Guild, I've been playing for 33 years now and am still learning. Please say a big "Hello to Dallas for me, I spent a lot of time there on business and had great fun. Cheers! :D

interesting link Guildmark.

There's actually an open mic Wed nites at the bowling alley about 1 mile from my house.

Its a very family oriented place, so maybe an audience that is comprised mostly of 9 yr olds would be less intimidating than others.

(although, kids are known to be brutally honest, so you might hear a "this guy sucks" from over by the video games)

Welcom Brian, keep playing that Guild, I found that over the years..30+ that my guitar has always been a good friend and great therapy for those times when nothing else will work. :) I think most of us understand the "Obsession" you talk about. My wife knows about it, but just doesn't understand. Whodafigered?
