Darryl,

A fella was playing a steel at the show in Arlington, bit of a geez he was, a handsome geez, but never the less..., shy fella, and a right fine player. Consistent small crowd at his booth.

First time I'd seen close up what goes on

No kidding, left right, up & down, both legs, all the while with the slide going on top. Not something you'd want to teach at the Altzheimer unit.

All that and usually twenty strings.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Lost my keys today, major issue retracing my path. Perhaps I'm not hopeless just yet, managed to find them, in the mud.

I got up in the night to get a drink of water, then went back to bed. Got up 4 hrs later and found that I had left the water running.

I watched the Lawrence Welk Show starting around 1957. I didn't miss many shows, I still watch the reruns today, but not all the time. When I do watch it, my wife leaves the room. No doubt the show isn't for everybody.

I remember Buddy Merrill when he first started on the show, he left to go in the service and Neal LeVang was his replacement. When Buddy returned Lawrence kept both guitarists. They were probably my first two guitarists that I watched to learn. Probably in the early sixties, I got my first guitar, a Vega.

Great video...nice link. I have a few questions because I'm not too bright; Are there a different number of strings on each neck or are they all 6 strings? I've never seen a "quad head steel guitar" before. Phenomenal. Another stupid question; is Buddy still alive?

I'm not a big steel fan, but that was an enjoyable video simply because of Buddy's talent.

I love the comments below the video about Welk telling him to look at the camera! Got to give him credit for at least trying to glance up to keep the "boss" happy - that thing is complex to play! I don't know how he took his eyes of it for a second...
