Not a thread about what I should be doing a lot more of.....

But a wonderful book, thank you to Super8. The writer is Glenn Kurtz. "Practicing, A Musicians Return to Music". Kurtz was a classical guitar prodigy. Went to the Boston Conservatory, on to Vienna and ultimately quit. For decades never touched the guitar. His return and discovery of a love for music verus a passion for perfection makes for a very touching and fascinating story.

Thaks for the heads up - I will read it! Those of you who also enjoy these kinds of books, my favorite is Tim Brookes "Guitar: An american Life", which focuses on two "interwoven" stories - the history of the guitar in America, and the telling of Brookes having a guitar custom made by a local luthier, and how he feels about it, etc.

I'll second that. Read it a year or so ago. Wonderful read and the intertwining of the two stories is very compelling.

:D I'll have to give that book "GUITAR...an American life' by Tim Brooks, a solid third. Excellent story , building facts, choices behind the guitar building, and excellent history all rolled into one. Ive read it twice, and have loaned it to friends who have enjoyed it very much also. a VERY good read for guitarists. My copy is so marked up and underlined, but at least I can find the facts when i need them.
Im hoping this book ( practicing) is equally good. Lots of great insight therein.

A solid fourth recomendation.

I read that one almost in it's entirety in one day while suffering through jury duty waiting.
A really fun read.

Sorry to nitpick, but Glenn studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. The Boston Conservatory, believe it or not, is a different school!
