Plumbing.......DELTA RP17400 cartridge question

Any plumbers here? I have bathtub with a water leak that is dripping from the handle. The problem is that the water is leaking past the o-ring seal. The new replacement RP17400 cartridge made things worse! I notice that the o-ring on the new RP17400 cartridge is smaller and more flimsy than the ones on the original cartridges from the late 90s. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, were you able to resolve the problem? Delta told me that the new part that I have is indeed the current and correct OEM part. That's all they would say.

Can you replace the O-ring with a better one? Something a bit more stout or something? Just wondering....

The problem is not the big O-ring on the cartridge I'd say. There are a couple of Youtube videos where they say it's often the spring and base seal sitting under that unit and not that RP1740 unit.

I went looking for one today, but nothing was close to what I needed. I'll keep looking.

I replaced those too. They are still in good shape.
