Hi there,

I've been hit by a severe GAS attack and keep finding guitars that I really want. While I'm really looking for a maple F-50, I have come across its slightly smaller sibling, the F-40. I know that it has a 16" lower bout, but that's about all I know. I own a good-looking blonde Gibson J-185-12 and quite like its tonal balance (thinking it would make an even better 6-string...).

What can youse tell me about the F-40 other than what's in Hans' great book?

Cheers,
Recky

Well, I own a F47 which is 95% the same as an F-40 and I love it. Depends on what you like. However, I was fortunate to hit the nail on the head the first time.
For me, the feel of the neck is the most important part. The neck of te F-47 is a substantial piece of wood and love it. Very comfortable guitar. I play fingerstyle almost exclusively.

Hi bedell!

Yeah, me too: I have a new F-47 which I'm loving. The neck IS substantial, but comfortable. 1 11/16" nut, but I think the string spacing is decent. Equally nice for either fingerstyle or strumming.

Thanks for your replies so far!

You reckon a (semi-)vintage F-40 from 1980 is pretty much the same as the modern-day one?
